Can i use a windows xp home or pro CD to chkdsk /R media center edition?
so i have a toshiba laptop that has microsoft windows xp media center edition 2005….and i want to chkdsk /R by using a CD at the recovery console
my question is……….can i use a xp pro or home CD????? for the media center edition or are they completely different type?
You should be able to use the XP pro or home CD. They aren’t that much different.
What type of dvd media should i buy for my 18 X samsung dvd +/- R DL burner?
Does it matter if I buy – R or + R dvds?
what brand do you recommend?
i have lightscribe capability, does it only work for certain dvds?
Plus or minus will work, plus are a little bit better. I recommend buying Verbatim, they are among the highest in quality and are fairly inexpensive. For lightscribe you have to get DVDs that say thay are lightscribe DVDs as there is a special surface on the top to make lightscribe possible.
Does 16x blank DVD media turn out bad alot?
I know the 16x media burns faster but does does the backup come out bad often?
It depends on what disc brand you are using and your hardware. If it’s name-brand stuff, then the data will probably be safe for years if burned properly and stored appropriately.
Overall, I would recommend to burn slower and to check for read errors after you burn. You can either do this through your burning program or with some you can find online.
Of all the DVD media that is around, Taiyo Yuden is the best.
Anyone ever burn a DVD using Windows Media Center?
I’ve been trying to burn a DVD using Windows Media Center and an AVI file. It seems to be really, really slow and then aborts around 31%. Has anyone else burned a DVD using Windows Media Center, and if so how long did it take? And what format file did you burn from (AVI, MPEG, or what?)
Thanks!
I have burned many DVDs in MCE from DVR-MS files (basically MPEG with some MS DRM crap). A couple of hours for a movie is not unusual. I had a problem similar to yours several months ago. I suggest you post in the Microsoft XP/Vista MCE newsgroup. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/newsgroups/reader.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.mediacenter.
Also search through the old posts. I don’t remeber what I did to solve the problem, but by reading through the old posts I found a solution to that and several other problems.
I’ve also burned DVDs directly in Nero 7. Frankly, if it wasn’t for the TV interface, I wouldn’t bother with NCE.
Ogilvy’s New Media Guru On Online Advertising
I met ad man David Rittenhouse at MIT last month where we were attending the Emerging Technologies Conference.
David is one of the industry’s savviest observers of new media. As part of the agency’s “neo” division, he devises edgy media plans for Ogilvy clients including IBM.
I sat down with him in his New York office last week where he gave a great overview of advertising opportunities afforded by online video. While he is very bullish on branded sites like Nike’s Joga, he is leery about the viral advertising on video sharing sites like YouTube. He cautions viral ads can be make a big impression, but can damage valuable brands.
