Introduction to Windows Deployment Services [6 Min ]
Last week I popped into Adam’s office to ask about Windows Deployment Services which is a feature that is built into Windows Server 2008. He showed me a quick 6 minute demo which shows how you can easily deploy operating systems to many desktops over the network without having to be physically present at each computer and without having to install CD media on each machine.
As you can see, Adam needs to clean his monitor a little.
Post any technical questions on the post and I will help answer them.
More details on Windows Deployment Services can be found at http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/library/7d837d88-6d8e-420c-b68f-a5b4baeb52481033.mspx?mfr=true

Hi all !
Well, I …
Hi all !
Well, I can configure the WDS according to this video and other training stuff as well, but the thing is this I can not get the correct results. There is no communication between the WDS and client. I am running DHCP on the same machine as WDS.
Even i added the DHCP options etc according to the documentations. So if some one let know the video of the How to configure the Infrastructe components of Server 2008 (AD DS, DNS, DHCP) so WDS work on the same machine running DHCP.

You must create a …
You must create a partition on your hard drive so you can create and store the image there. When the capture image wizard comes to the “choose a volume” then your “C:/” should be in that box.
Remember:
Keep the sysprep file on the oringinal C drive.
And have the “partition” formated so you can store the Capture Image on that.

I created a capture image that I already put on the Windows 2003 server as an “Install Image” and when I PXE boot from the client PC, it boots into windows PE, loads…BUT it comes to a command prompt.
I was expecting a GUI to run so I can choose my install image to deploy….what am I doing wrong?

Umm Have you ever …
Umm Have you ever looked at macs on a networking Leval? They have “Bonjour” so if there are mac’s on the same network, guess what, They see each other!!!! DO YOU KNOW MOAST HOLLYWOOD STUDOYS USES MACS, because they never crash? and why the industry has chosen mac? just saying they are big industuires, a pc can not do for them,
April 30th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
well windows …
well windows explorer is no longer integrated with internet explorer, and i dont know why people claim or even compare macs and to Windows, the reason why there are more problems with windows is because it actually has some sophistication and runs corporate environments, but macs dont have much problems cause all it does is use itunes, lol cause its shit, and windows isnt really a hassle if you have the qualifications for Windows and Networking. i suppose people wil always make bitch

also, Windows has …
also, Windows has more problems because it has its own stuff, Like Internet Explorer, one of the worst things in existent!
Chrome is better then explore, why is the windows os using its web browser as a shell? Why does some many of the linux shells work better? or even os 9’s shell? Becuase it was made for users. not for dumb rednecks

I have a windows 7 computer that i had to install a 16 bit drive on, (printer) and it only work in 32bit 7?why do i know about cleaner or regedit or msconfig? You don’t know …
You don’t know about computers, and you should learn.
April 30th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
yes, but with OS X …
yes, but with OS X you have no drivers, so you can deploy the same image, I can send an image for ibo oks and imacs lets say.
April 30th, 2010 at 2:16 pm
I am going to have …
I am going to have to disagree wiht you there. especially with MDT 2010. MS deployment tools now let you dynamically deploy images to multiple models of desktops and servers and MDT utilizes the PnP IDs for drivers so it will only inject the drivers that are needed which reduces the amount of data brought over the network. also, you can dynamically decide which applications and WSUS updates to push into the image or capture rather than build a reference image that will get stale in a year.
