Is there a media player that has the sound enhancer abilities of iTunes that isn’t iTunes? every other media player I’ve tried (WMP, Winamp, etc.) has the music sounding muffled and flat, and only the sound enhancer from itunes can help it. But itunes randomly deletes music and is slow, is there an alternative player? Or a good plug in for the others?

Here is an article that has some good information on accessory software for iPod iPad iPhone and iTunes… there is also info on jailbreaking pros and cons. http://rockbridgereviews.com/accessory-software-for-ipod-iphone-ipad-and-itunes/ also See this review article on alternatives to iTunes: http://zardozz.com/zz/itunes-alternative

MM is the 3rd most popular media file manager software behind Apples iTunes (of course) and the stock Windows Media Player (no iPod support). The really cool thing about this software as an alternative software to iTunes and Windows Media Player is that it also interfaces and syncs up with iPods, iPhones, iPads and even the Android with more smart devices to follow. I also like that they are also vendor neutral (they are not tied to Apple or anyone else) and will work to provide a solution for ALL smart devices over time.

The title pretty much says it all, but I do have a follow-up question.
What are the advantages of buying cd’s/dvd’s with music or movies, compared to just buying them via online stores like iTunes and then storing them to your hard drive?

I would say the only real advantage is that if you’re not real tech-savvy, CDs and DVDs work in almost every device that can play them. DVDs and CDs also last longer than storing them on a hard disk since most hard disks only last so long and then they fail to spin up or run into other problems. So you invest more money into it.

With storing them on hard disk – for example – if you use a program to make rips – and then you plug in your external device into something which can read the files – you have to know what types of files your device can and can’t read. You have to know the settings in order to achieve the best quality. It becomes a challenge for people who don’t know about that stuff.

I have purchased movies from iTunes which are stored on an external hard drive, and it’s 1TB compared to my 200GB computer hard drive. So all I do is set my iTunes to point to my external hard drive to read from, and I have 1TB of storage and can stream to my Apple TV from anywhere in my home as long as my computer and iTunes are running.

Another problem with digital distribution methods of movies is that you run into DRM which is like a sort of copy protection scheme they encode into digital movies so that you can’t redistribute the content. iTunes is notorious for it. There are workarounds, but it’s just a whole lot easier to get the hard copy and then make a digital version of it with a ripping program.

I also use this method to make rips of all the movies I own into a generic MP4/AAC format, which plays on my PS3, my family’s Blu Ray player and other similar devices. It’s also nice because all my friends have PS3s so when I go over to their place, all I have to do is take my external hard drive instead of hauling my entire DVD/Blu Ray collection and my original discs. AVI is probably a better/more universally recognized container, but especially when you have large files with a lot of information like a Blu Ray rip, the MP4 container can store it all in a smaller package as opposed to AVI. I’d still say AVI is better though because it works on more devices than MP4 at this point.

I’ve ripped a few cds to my computer and I want to put them all on one mp3 cd, but WMP is not letting me re-arrange the tracks and put them in a different order. I can "sort" them, but that doesn’t do any good. Ideas? I have windows 7, not sure what version of media player would come with that.

CDs are a hassle when it comes to managing what’s on them. If the CD isn’t rewritable(R/W), then there’s no altering the song list on it. If it is R/W, then you can rearrange the song list. You need to delete everything on the CD and then burn the correct list to the CD. You’ll have to wait until tomorrow to view my link. Wikipedia’s down in protest of SOPA today.

My problem is I have a desktop computer with the facility for LightScribe and I don’t know how to use it. From what I’ve gathered so far a CD-R LightScribe disc needs to turned over after copying a music CD to the Windows Media Player. The image on the original music disc can then be permanently marked in greyscale onto the CD-R. Do you know what program I need to use and the correct procedure to mark the picture onto the LightSCribe disc. Thanks, Damien.

One of the best pieces of software for making and burning Lightscribe covers is on the Lightscribe site but undocumented. They used to give a version of Surething – http://www.surething.com/ – software away on the site. They’ve removed all reference to it but never removed the software. You can download it from http://www.lightscribe.com/files/setup.zip

I found much better than the offical Lightscribe software. Once you’ve designed your cover just press Print.

4) Can a dvd player not play a dvd +/-rw disc because of it brand name?

You have to understand that Brand names mean very little for low-end consumer items. Yes, SONY has probably stricter specs and QA procedures, but the discs may be made in the same factory that does Maxells.

When I tried my computer says I need internet to install. Is there a way I can copy and install a Windows Media codec file without the internet?

Go to this website.
http://www.windowsmediacodec.com

Click "Download now" from your mobile phone.

If mobile phone support java, use Opera Mini to view the site. (Almost all mobiles support Java)

Save the installer.exe[7MB approx] to your memory card.

Connect it to PC and Transfer the Codec.
Then you know how to install the codec to your PC.
